Candidate for Mayor of Winnsboro

Jimmy Carl Davis

About Me

My name is Jimmy Carl Davis, and I am running for Mayor of Winnsboro on May 3rd.

My family moved to Winnsboro in 1964 when I was a young boy, and my father, Carl Davis, owned and operated the Western Auto store on North Main and then on East Elm for many years. Following graduation from Winnsboro High School in 1970, I moved to Austin and attended The University of Texas. I later earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from the University of North Texas (NTSU). From there I began working for Braniff International Airlines as a flight attendant and ultimately retired from American Airlines in 2016.

Throughout my career I returned to Winnsboro on a regular basis to visit my family and attend school reunions, and I kept up with changes taking place in my hometown. Shortly after retiring, I began visiting Winnsboro more regularly to keep in close contact with my parents and my school friends. I also began looking for a place to make my retirement community. It just made sense to me that I would return to the community where I grew up and make it my home base once again. In 2023, I moved back to Winnsboro full time and became a homeowner; therefore, I am invested in our community.

Throughout my career, I had the good fortune of living in many larger cities across the country as well as smaller ones. Over the years I learned how cities choose to present themselves to their citizens and to the public. As Mayor, I will bring my knowledge of “what works” in other cities home to Winnsboro to enhance the lives of citizens and businesses as well as visitors to our town.

Why am I running for Mayor?

Since returning to Winnsboro, I have actively participated in local festivities including all-school reunions, Autumn Trails, Christmas parades and tree lightings. I frequent local businesses, attend concerts and plays at WCA, listen to live music at Barrel House and generally support the community in any way I can.

My previous experience working in the fields of visual merchandising, retail and interior design made me the perfect fit for my current job working at the new Kehoe-Wilson Design store on E. Elm St. in downtown. As someone who has always been involved in my community, I recognize the importance of having a Mayor who is involved and visible. The Mayor is the “face” of the city and should represent its citizens and their interests. Because I work part-time, I have the time and sincere desire to serve my community as Mayor.

Because I have ties to the community from years ago, and more recently, I believe I would have a positive impact on the future direction of our town. I am keenly interested in serving as Mayor and I am passionate about helping our ever-evolving community become an even better place for our citizens, businesses and visitors. I will collaborate with other individuals and groups who are already making a difference in Winnsboro, and I’ll lead other initiatives that are important to you, the citizens of our town.

I am asking for your vote on May 3rd
